Bodrum is the Turkish Mediterranean's jewel on the Aegean coast — a former fishing village transformed into a chic resort. Whitewashed houses, blue shutters, bougainvillea, charming harbour. Famous for nightlife, yacht marina and as a starting point for "Blue Cruise" to the Greek islands and the Datça peninsula.

🏰 Bodrum Castle (St Peter Castle)

Built 1402-1437 by the Knights Hospitaller using stones from the demolished Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. One of the best preserved Crusader castles. Today houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology — finds from ancient shipwrecks (Uluburun Bronze Age wreck). Entry: 200 TL. Best views of the harbour from the towers.

🏛️ Mausoleum of Halicarnassus

One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — tomb of King Mausolus (377 BC), 50 m high. Destroyed by earthquakes in the medieval era, stones used for the castle. Today: archaeological site with foundations and scale model. Entry: 50 TL.

⛵ Blue Cruise (Mavi Yolculuk)

Bodrum's signature experience — 3-7 day cruise on a traditional Turkish gulet (wooden sailing yacht). Routes: Bodrum-Datça (Turkish coast), Bodrum-Greek islands (Kos, Rhodes), Bodrum-Marmaris. Includes meals, swimming stops at hidden coves. Prices: 100-300 EUR/person/day.

🏖️ Bodrum peninsula beaches

  • Bitez (8 km) — windsurfing, family.
  • Gümbet (3 km) — youth, nightlife.
  • Yalıkavak (20 km) — luxury, marina, designer shops.
  • Türkbükü (20 km) — glamour, hidden coves.
  • Gümüşlük (25 km) — fishing village, sunset over Rabbit Island.
  • Akyarlar (35 km) — best sandy beach on the peninsula.

🌃 Nightlife

Bodrum is Turkey's nightlife capital after Istanbul. Halikarnas (legendary open-air disco), Catamaran (boat club anchored in the bay), Marina Yacht Club. Bar Street (Cumhuriyet Caddesi) — dozens of bars and clubs, action until sunrise.

🚗 Transport

Bodrum-Milas Airport (BJV) 36 km, seasonal direct flights from Europe. Ferry to Kos (Greece) — 1 hour, multiple times daily (good for visa-free EU citizens).
