Spring (April-May) is one of the best times to visit Turkey. Summer heat has not yet begun, no crowds, prices are low. Nature is exploding everywhere: tulips in Istanbul, poppies in Anatolia, emerald-green highlands on the Black Sea.

🌷 Istanbul Tulip Festival

Throughout April all of Istanbul is adorned with tulips — about 30 million tulips, 360 different varieties. History: Tulips were taken from Turkey to Holland during the Ottoman period (16th century). With the festival the Istanbul Municipality celebrates the city's connection to tulips.

  • Emirgan Grove — main festival site, 3 million tulips, 270 varieties. Bosphorus view.
  • Gülhane Park — next to Topkapı Palace, roses and tulips.
  • Sultanahmet Square — tulip fields in front of Hagia Sophia, most photogenic.
  • Beykoz Grove — Asian side, less crowded.

🌸 Anatolian flowers

In May, poppy fields bloom in the Central and Eastern Anatolian highlands. Cappadocia — May is the most beautiful time, neither hot nor cold, ideal for balloon tours. Pamukkale — cliffs surrounded by greenery.

🏞️ Black Sea highlands

Black Sea mountains (Rize, Trabzon, Artvin) — late May / early June is the best time. Pokut, Hıdırnebi, Sal, Ayder highlands are turning green. Scenic waterfalls, altitudes above the clouds, traditional wooden houses. Tea fields full of green.

🌊 Spring on the coasts

Mediterranean and Aegean coast — April-May sea is still cold (16-18°C), but beaches are empty, hotels 50% off. Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris — ideal for walking, nature, culture. For swimming you must wait for summer.

🎉 Other spring events

  • Manisa Mesir Macunu Festival (March-April) — since the 16th century.
  • Cappadocia hot air balloon — April-May best weather.
  • Ramadan (varies each year, sometimes March-May) — special iftar meals, midnight soup.

💡 Practical info

  • Clothing: light jacket + t-shirt combination. Rain coat essential.

  • Crowds: much less than summer season, ideal for photography.
